The workflow in a canoe seems straightforward: The next step is rowing. So is the one after that. And the one after that. Everyone keeps rowing, and each stroke moves you closer to your destination.
Simple, right?
A workflow coordinator, someone like Luis Ruiz, knows better. There are plenty of other factors to consider, from timing to wind and water conditions to the skillsets of the rowers. There are plenty of ways a rowboat can stall, and Luis’s favorite quote points to the most common one: “A boat does not advance if everyone is rowing in one direction.”
In two years with Sturgeon, Luis has built a record of excellence. His attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality assurance have become the cornerstone of the company's operations. Luis is the linchpin in ensuring that every team member is synchronized, propelling the team forward with precision and efficiency. Shipping, receiving, processing, storing, loading orders, organizing, and labeling incoming stock: Luis is at the center of it all. And the Sturgeon culture puts him at the center of a tight-knit team.
“Working here is like working with your family,” he said. “Everybody here has a really great relationship, and you have people who have your back. Everyone supports you.”
Luis’s proactive approach and ability to anticipate potential issues before they arise have significantly contributed to Sturgeon's reputation for reliability and customer satisfaction. His dedication extends beyond the immediate tasks at hand, as he continuously seeks ways to improve processes and outcomes, setting a high standard of excellence for his peers and the company as a whole.
While Luis builds computers in his spare time, this role as workflow coordinator is his first time working in information technology. Luis previously worked in the construction industry. He brings an eye for detail and a warm, casual way of working to the teams. Busy or not (and he’s often busy), Luis is always ready to help a colleague in need.
So, what’s next for Luis? The same thing that’s next for Sturgeon: growth.
“We want to grow as a bigger company–more customers, more business, more warehouses,” he said. “I’m always trying to help us grow and reach that point.”
“I like what I’m doing, but I’m for whatever it takes to help the company grow. If they tell me, ‘hey do this,’ I’m gonna be happy to assist.””
And we like what you’re doing, Luis. Thank you for everything you bring to Sturgeon!
